Annacloud9 is the personal internet home for me, writer and digital artist D.E.Hughes, and has been since 1999. In 2003, the official domain name Annacloud9.com was purchased.
I named the website combining a common phrase "On Cloud 9" with my favorite girl's name Anna. Combined they were meant to express the purpose of the creative expression for which the website was founded, in one simple word: elation.
Annacloud9 has undergone countless iterations, all stemming from my personal mood and station in life. It has always steered clear of any political, religious, and otherwise controversial subject matter. This is a direct stance I've taken as to not alienate, nor discriminate, any person who may find comfort or solace as a writer or artist visiting Annacloud9. com, or any social media associated.
I've been writing science-fiction, fantasy, and horror, since the early 1980's. Along the way I started graphically interpreting my work, with pencil and digital tools. I've been helping writers at Fanstory.com since 2009, and joined the Deviantart community shortly before.
Through writing I portray the nature of human choice, and ultimate consequence, regardless of time or setting. Character development is essential. Dialogue is crucial yet minimal, and meant to emphasize the reader's own interpretation of a character, rather than define them. Tragedy and loss, combined with perseverance and reward, is what governs character motivation for me.
